Introduction to DisEmbodiment: Finding Our Way Back: Healing Through Embodiment and Connection

Writer: LaSheena JenkinsLaSheena Jenkins

Hey beloved. Can you pause with me for a moment? Take a deep breath. Let the weight on your shoulders soften, just for now. We’ve all been rushing, haven’t we? Rushing to avoid the discomfort, rushing to protect ourselves from feeling too much.

We carry our traumas like shields, more often than not like helmets. We don’t just observe the world through the lens of our past; we let that lens harden over our entire being. For a long time, that was me—guarded, ready for battle, yet distant from myself. But healing, I’ve found, asks something different from us. It asks us to gently remove the armor and come back to our bodies, to the earth, to the breath.

When I studied divinity, I didn’t just learn about theology; I learned about myself. My eyes opened to the ways we’ve become disembodied—separated from who we truly are, from the earth, and from each other. And it wasn’t just a distant, intellectual concept; it was personal. I realized how many of us, including myself, wear our trauma as a second skin, always prepared for the next hurt.

But what if healing looked like slowing down? What if instead of numbing the discomfort of difference, we sat with it? What if we welcomed the discomfort as part of the human experience, the thing that makes us real, that makes us alive?

This is what I’ve come to embrace in my own life and what I hope to share with you. Embodiment isn’t just a concept; it’s a way of coming home—to ourselves and to each other. Let’s slow down, breathe deeply, and find our way back. I’m on this journey with you, and together, we can start living in our bodies again.

If this message resonated with you, I invite you to take a moment today to pause, breathe, and reflect on how you can reconnect with your own body. Share your thoughts with me in the comments, or sign up for my newsletter where I’ll be sharing more insights on healing, embodiment, and connection. Let’s continue this journey together.
